Donald Trump is accused of falsifying business records to hide a US$130,000 bribe paid and his relationship with porn actress Stormy Daniels.

On Monday (15), the trial of the first of four criminal cases faced by former President Donald Trump in United States courts began. The politician will defend himself against 34 charges of falsifying business records related to a bribe paid to porn actress Stormy Daniels to keep her silent.

The accusations suggest that Donald Trump sought to hide his relationship with porn actress Stormy Daniels during his presidential campaign in 2016, in which he defeated former US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. According to the prosecution, he committed several accounting frauds at his company, the Trump Organization, to cover up a payment of US$130,000 to porn actress Stormy Daniels, with the aim of ensuring her silence.

The bribe payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels would have been made by her then lawyer, Michael Cohen, considered a key witness in the case. Later, during his tenure in the White House, the Republican would have reimbursed Michael Cohen with deposits made by Donald Trump‘s company, money disguised as the company’s legal expenses, which would violate, according to prosecutors, New York laws.

In defense, former President Donald Trump‘s lawyers claim that the payment was made to porn actress Stormy Daniels, however, they argue that it was intended to avoid embarrassment to Donald Trump‘s family, and not to influence his electoral chances, as Manhattan prosecutors claim.
